The following image depicts a report from Commander Henry K. Hoff, USN, to Captain S.F.Dubont, Commanding Officer of Naval Station Philadelphia. This letter is a report of Commander Hoff's inspection of the Alligator's prototype upon its confiscation by the Philadelphia police. A transcription (pdf) of the report is provided by EMCS (SS) Jim Christley, USN (ret); and the original letter is available at the National Archives and Records Service.
