Frank Cantelas

Frank Cantelas is an underwater archaeologist with the Maritime Studies Program at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.  He earned his MA in Maritime History and Underwater Archaeology specializing in nineteenth century ship construction and technology.  Over the last several years he has worked on the Ocracoke Shipwreck Survey along North Carolina’s Outer Banks and recently served as the principal investigator of the Kad’yak shipwreck investigation in Kodiak, Alaska.  Both of these projects were funded by grants from NOAA’s Ocean Exploration Program.  He teaches underwater archaeology techniques and supervises student field research.
