The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation has designated Maui County a Preserve America Community (click here to view press release). Maui County becomes the second Hawaii community to achieve Preserve America status.

To celebrate the designation, Preserve America Chairman John L. The Office of National Marine Sanctuaries Pacific Islands Region is proud to have been involved in the nomination process with Maui County.

Preserve America communities become eligible for technical and financial support, educational and marketing opportunities and a Presidential Awards program. Preserve America helps local communities develop sustainable resource management strategies and sound business practices for the continued preservation and use of heritage assets.

The June 26 designation ceremony, which is open to the public, will begin at 9 a.m., at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary’s Maui Office, located at 726 South Kihei Road, Kihei, Hawaii. The public is invited. For more information, contact Allen.Tom@noaa.gov.
