In addition to Sanctuary research conducted by Sanctuary personnel, other institutions frequently enter sanctuary waters for research purposes. Outside research efforts often lead to collaborative efforts between various institutions and the Sanctuary. For example the CINMS partnered with scientists from the University of California at Santa Barbara to study impacts of the El Niño Storms. The project, named "Plumes and Blooms", investigates the nutrient rich brown sediment plumes which, in turn, produce green marine algal blooms. (photo: Channel Islands NMS)
