Large juvenile Loggerhead sea turtles, Caretta caretta, are the most common sea turtle encountered at the Flower Gardens and Stetson Bank. Five animals have been tracked by satellite technology since 1995. The animals are captured by scuba divers in a handheld net, brought safely to the surface, and transferred onto the deck of a waiting research vessel with a custom metal basket and winch.
