Four coastal tribes-the Makah, Quileute, Hoh and Quinault-depend upon the sanctuary as protection of marine resources upon which their people depend. Under treaties, the tribes' are co-managers with the sanctuary and other agencies in "Usual and Accustomed Areas" for fishing, shellfish gathering and other resource uses.
