As can be deduced from their names, the sand lance (Ammodytes americanus) and sand dollar (Echinarachnius parma) can be found on sandy substrates. The sand lance buries itself in the sand to hide, while the flat sand dollar slowly edges its way across the bank. (photo: Dann Blackwood and Page Valentine, USGS)
