Michiko Martin
Meteorologist and Oceanographer
NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary Program

Michiko Martin is the National Education Coordinator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office of National Marine Sanctuaries.  She directs the education programs for the National Marine Sanctuary System, a network of thirteen sanctuaries and one coral reef ecosystem reserve in diverse locations such as America Samoa, Hawaii, the Pacific Northwest, and the Florida Keys.  Prior to her work with NOAA, Michiko was a meteorologist and oceanographer for the United States Navy for twelve years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander and decorated with three Navy Commendation Medals.  Michiko has a Bachelors of Science degree in Oceanography from the United States Naval Academy, a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership from Troy State University, and a Masters of Science in Oceanographic Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute Joint Program.
